What is the Ninja Creami?

The Ninja Creami is a game-changing appliance from the innovative Ninja brand, streamlining homemade frozen dessert creation. This versatile device effortlessly crafts everything from creamy ice creams to refreshing sorbets, ensuring professional-quality with a simple button press. I snagged the standard model on sale at Costco Canada earlier this year, and it's become a daily staple. With two newer models now available, the deluxe and the creami breeze, there's more to explore.

What sets the Ninja Creami apart from traditional ice cream makers is its advanced technology, eliminating the need for pre-freezing or lengthy churning. It guarantees a silky texture every time. My family and I regularly whip up ice creams, smoothie bowls, milkshakes, and sorbets. It's impressive how basic ingredients transform into delectable treats with this device.

Ingredients for Low Calorie Ice Cream Base Mix in the Ninja Creami

I use this simple base mix for all my low calorie ice cream, you can flavour different varieties of pudding mix or your choice of mix ins once you creami the frozen base.

To make low-calorie ice cream, you will need:

  • ½ pack (14g) of sugar-free Jell-O pudding powder (choose a flavor that complements your ice cream; for this recipe, I recommend butterscotch)
  • 2 cups (480ml) of 2% milk
  • Sweetener of choice, to taste

Ensure you whisk the pudding mix thoroughly with the milk until fully combined. Taste your base mix; it should be slightly sweeter than your desired final taste because freezing can diminish some of its sweetness. Adjust with your preferred sweetener as necessary.

You can purchase Jell-O Sugar Free Butterscotch Pudding Mix in the UK on Amazon.

For those in the UK looking for substitutes: consider using sugar-free Angel Delight butterscotch powder in place of the Jell-O. However, this substitution hasn't been tested

How to Make Ice Cream in the Ninja Cream

To prepare ice cream in the Ninja Creami, start by thoroughly mixing your base ingredients. Once mixed, transfer the mixture to the Ninja Creami pint container, secure the lid, and freeze for 24 hours.

After the freezing period, remove the lid and place the pint into the Creami machine.

For the initial spin, select the "Lite Ice Cream" option. Typically, this setting suffices. If the ice cream seems crumbly, try pressing it down with the back of a spoon. If it smoothens out, there's no need for a respin. However, if it remains crumbly, create a small well in the center of the ice cream, return the container to the Ninja Creami Machine, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk, and press the "Respin" button.

While the ice cream is delightful on its own, you can elevate its richness with mix-ins or toppings, especially for indulgent flavours like this Biscoff Ice Cream. To incorporate mix-ins, scoop out a portion of the ice cream from the center of the container and fill it with your chosen ingredient (for this recipe, crumbled Biscoff Lotus cookies are used). Place the container back into the machine and select the "Mix-In" option.

For an added touch, consider drizzling toppings such as melted Biscoff spread, as used in this recipe.

Variations and Substitutes

Alternative milk options: If you're seeking a milk with a richer consistency, avoid skimmed milk as it contains too much water. Instead, opt for 2% milk, which works reasonably well. Additionally, creamy oat or cashew milk could be suitable alternatives. However, steer clear of extremely low-calorie milks that are high in water content, as they may cause the ice cream to turn icy in certain parts, depriving you of the creamy and delicious texture you desire.

Alternative Thickeners: In the recipe, we incorporate sugar-free and fat-free pudding mix into the ice cream to aid in thickening and providing some stability. If you are unable to find these pudding mixes, guar and xanthan gum are suitable alternatives. Only a small amount, around ¼ teaspoon per pint, is needed for effective results.

Alternative Flavours: To alter the ice cream flavour, you have various options. You may explore using different flavour pudding mixes or extracts. Another idea is to incorporate chopped-up fruit into the base mix before freezing, as this can enhance the overall flavour of the ice cream.

Different Mix-ins - Mix-ins are an excellent method to diversify the flavour of your ice cream. We enjoy incorporating crumbled cookies, chocolate chips, jam, chopped fresh fruit, and candy. However, it's essential to be mindful of the calorie content of the chosen mix-ins, as some may significantly increase the overall calorie count, which might not align with your intention of creating a low-calorie option.

Is it possible to make this ice cream without a Ninja Creami?

Unfortunately, reproducing the precise results of this recipe without a Ninja Creami poses a challenge. The unique blade design of the Ninja Creami is essential for the process. If you try an alternative method of simply dumping the ingredients into a container and freezing, you'll have to consistently stir during the freezing process, and even then, avoiding ice crystals will be tricky. A regular blender lacks the ability to blend the frozen mass as effectively as the Ninja Creami does, so attempting a different approach won't produce the same outcome.

Ninja Creami Easy Biscoff Ice Cream

Yield: SERVES 4

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Additional Time: 1 day

Total Time: 1 day 15 minutes

Indulge in the creamy and delightful flavors of Biscoff with this easy-to-make, lower-calorie ice cream using the Ninja Creami. Butterscotch ice cream, blended with Lotus Biscoff cookie crumbs and drizzled with Biscoff spread, is truly a match made in heaven.

Ingredients

  • ½ pack (14g) of sugar-free Jell-O butterscotch pudding powder
  • 2 cups (480ml) of 2% milk
  • Sweetener of choice, to taste

Mix In

  • 4 lotus biscuits, roughly broken up

Topping:

  • 2 tablespoons of biscoff spread

Instructions

Make the base:

  1. Combine the milk and pudding mix well in a bowl (If you prefer you can mix using a blender).
  2. Taste and sweeten to your desired sweetness with granulated sweetener (it will loose some sweetness once frozen, so go I always recommend added a little bit extra).
  3. Transfer to ninja container with lid and freeze for 24 hours.

Process in Ninja Creami:

  1. Remove the lid from the container
  2. Place in the Ninja Creami
  3. Select the lite ice cream button (this is the setting for this icecream recipe, it will be different for other recipes). After the first initial process check the consistency of your icecream. I push the back of spoon into icecream, if it goes smooth it doesn't require a respin. If it still appears crumbly then hit the respin button (add in 1-2 tablespoons of milk if really crumbly).

Add in the mix ins:

  1. With a spoon, remove some of the middle of the icecream to make a crater to add your mix ins.
  2. Add 3 of the crumbled lotus biscoff cookies into the space.
  3. Then select the mix-in button on the creami.

Serve:

  1. Divide the icecream into 4 small bowls. (or you can enjoy more to you calorie preference)
  2. Warm the biscoff spread in the microwave until soften and melted.
  3. Drizzle over the top icecream
  4. Sprinkle with the remaining crumbled cookie.
